The Colophon
Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of THE FOLIO. By reading our plates, joining The Press List, or writing to the editor, you agree to what follows. We have kept it plain.
Last set: July 31, 2026.
1. About this publication
THE FOLIO is an independent video game publication offering video game reviews, release news, and lore essays. Access to the site is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial reading.
2. Editorial independence
Our reviews are not for sale. We do not accept payment, gifts, or access in exchange for coverage or for a particular Imprint Score. Scores and verdicts reflect the independent judgement of our editors. If that ever changes for a specific piece, we will disclose it plainly within that piece.
3. Fictional titles and studios
Every video game, studio, and individual reviewed or named on THE FOLIO is a work of fiction created for this publication. Titles such as Glasswind Reverie, Marrow & Mire, Cassette Sovereign, Halcyon Breach, The Quiet Loom, and Ironroot Dynasty, and studios such as Paper Lantern Atelier or Anvilgrove Games, do not refer to any real product, company, or person. Any resemblance to an actual title or organisation is coincidental. Publish dates, Imprint Scores, sub-metrics, and read-times shown on the site are generated for editorial illustration.
4. Acceptable use of our forms
When you use the Letters to the Editor form or The Press List, you agree to provide accurate information and to submit only content you are entitled to send. You agree not to use our forms to transmit unlawful, abusive, infringing, or deceptive material, and not to attempt to overload, probe, or disrupt the site or its underlying server. We may remove submissions or restrict access where these terms are breached.
5. Intellectual property
The text, design, original artwork, and code of THE FOLIO are the property of the publication and are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. You may quote short excerpts for review, commentary, or news reporting with attribution and a link. You may not republish whole plates or reproduce the site's design without our written permission.
6. Your submissions
When you send a Letter to the Editor, you grant us permission to read it and to reply. We may, at our discretion, publish reader letters in edited form; if you do not wish your letter to be considered for publication, simply say so in the message. We handle the information in your submissions as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. No warranty
THE FOLIO is provided "as is". While we proof every claim with care, we make no warranty that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, and editorial opinion is offered as opinion, not as professional advice. Your use of the site is at your own discretion.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, THE FOLIO will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its content.
9. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms from time to time. The current version always lives on this page, with the "Last set" date above reflecting the latest revision. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
10. Contact
